Watch These Apples of Your ‘I’s

Bigger than bigger’. With the tagline for its latest iPhones—iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, of course—Apple is saying go big or go home. The original iPhone had a then massive 3.5-inch display which it continued to sport till iPhone 4S. Then the phablet revolution happened and phone screen sizes started ballooning out of proportions. With the 5 and the 5S, the iPhone jumped to a 4-inch display. With the latest version, the iPhone takes its biggest leap ever. The iPhone 6 has a big 4.7-inch display and the iPhone 6 Plus has a massive 5.5-inch display. Both the models sport beautiful ‘Retina HD’ displays with the 4.7 incher packing 326 pixel per inch and the 5.5 incher packing 401 pixels with a gorgeous 1080p display. With the 6 and its big brother, Apple’s famous unibody aluminium enclosure comes to the iPhone which blends seamlessly with the front glass to make a very smooth phone. Apple has always said that it wouldn’t make bigger displays for its iPhones until certain conditions are met, and now it looks like those conditions are met with the smaller phone being just 6.9mm thick and the bigger 7.1mm which makes it easier to use even with one hand. The one hand use is also helped by a feature called ‘Reachability’ which makes the display smaller by double tapping the home button. Both the models run on the latest A8 chip which promises faster performance and better energy efficiency with its two billion transistors packed in a 64-bit desktop class architecture.
The A8 chip is complemented by a new motion co-processor called the M8 which collects information from different sensors like the accelerometer and the barometer so it can provide you with information like elevation and speed.
Both the phones are so thin that the back camera protrudes out iPod-touch style. Inside the camera is an 8MP shooter that packs newer sensors and technologies like Focus Pixels which let you autofocus and capture moments really quick. While the smaller phone comes with digital optical image stabiliser, the bigger comes with a proper optical image stabiliser which should provide you with some great photos. Both the cameras are capable of recording high-definition video with frame rates of up to 60fps for 1080p video and 240fps for slow-motion video.
A new Apple Pay digital payment system lets you save any Visa or MasterCard cards on your phone to make use of NFC to make easy payments at any shops using pay points to securely pay using Touch ID finger print sensor. While this feature rolls out in October in the US, it is expected to roll out in the rest of the world later.
Available in silver, gold and space gray with 16, 64 and 128GB of internal storage, both the models will come with iOS 8 and with features like super fast LTE and Voice over LTE, they cement the iPhone’s position as the best smartphone in the world.
Anticipating that Apple will one day release a smartwatch, many tech companies have been releasing smartwatches for the past year and have been making fools of themselves. Samsung released six in the past year, none of which has even made a dent in the market. That is largely due to the fact that a smartwatch primarily is about looking like a watch that you would want to wear, not about all the phone like gimmicks it can perform.
And so Apple has finally stepped into the game, and true to its form, may have already changed the game. That is because the Apple Watch looks just like a watch. A watch that you would die to wear. For starters, when it is available sometime in the first half of next year, it will be available in three flavours. A standard Apple Watch which is made from polished or space black stainless steel. Apple Watch Sport, made from space grey or silver anodised aluminium, or the very expensive Apple Watch Edition, made from 18-karat rose or yellow gold. All of these flavours come with six different straps ranging from a Milanese Loop in a flexible magnetic stainless steel mesh to the Leather Loop in soft, quilted leather, all available in a variety of colours. The extremely accurate timepiece comes with 11 custom watch faces which get activated when you lift your hand.
On the bottom you will find sensors like a heart-rate sensor which are capable of tracking all your activity and around them is an inductive loop to quickly charge the watch with Apple’s proprietary Magsafe technology.
The biggest differentiator in the Apple Watch is the unique Digital Crown which lets you scroll, zoom and navigate through different apps without you having to always touch the touchscreen on the top obscuring your view. Available in two different sizes, at 38mm and 42mm, Apple Watch is a beautiful watch, fitness tracker and a smart companion to your iPhone all rolled up into one elegant package. It works with the iPhone 5, 5S, 5C and both the 6 models. The starting price would be $349 (approx. `22,000) and the high end models are expected to go into thousands of dollars.
