When Apple started thinking about launching the iWatch that would allow it to step into the world of medicine with its capability to track various vital signs, it started looking for some stars in the field of medicine who could bring their expertise to the company. One of those stars is Divya Nag who, in the words of Apple tracking blog 9to5mac, brought ‘experience in managing product launches, gaining FDA approval, and partnering up with existing healthcare industry behemoths’ to Apple. Outstanding, all the more because Divya is just 23. In typical Silicon Valley fashion, she had dropped out of Stanford University while studying for a degree in human biology to co-found her first company, Stem Cell Theranostics. Funded by the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine, the company uses a technology called the ‘induced pluripotent stem cell’, that makes it possible to test new pharmaceutical drugs on human cells in a laboratory. Divya is also the founder of and acted as the Chief Product Officer of StartX Med, an organisation that aims to help and develop entrepreneurs in the fields of life sciences and medicines by becoming a one-stop destination for ‘all healthcare innovations coming out of universities around the world’. Divya who has been selected for the 2013 Forbes ’30 under 30’ list in Science & Healthcare is also the recipient of many other accolades like Stanford University Thought Leader and has been published in many prestigious science journals.
