KOCHI: Gone are the days when a class teacher jotted down on a kid’s diary the general announcements and ‘things to do’. Teacher-parent interface has undergone a paradigm shift ever since the advent of the Internet and mobile technology. Now, helping every parent carry their children’s school diary on their palm is a mobile app ‘EdDiary,’ developed by Ninan K Sunny, a non-techie hailing from Tiruvalla in Pathanamthitta. The app is a comprehensive solution that creates an interactive platform to link the parents of the students seeking education at a school and the teachers who impart them the knowledge in a faster and smarter way.
With the EdDiary app installed on a smartphone, all the ‘to do’ things of a child will be at the fingertips of their parents. It provides a cracking user experience and technology innovation that can simplify the communication between the teachers and the parents thereby enhancing information flow and reporting capabilities on both sides ensuring max gain to the students, says Ninan, CEO and founder of Vergekeys Solutions LLP, a Kochi-based startup.
After completing his bachelors degree in management studies from Wilson College, Mumbai, and snapping up a PG diploma in event management, Ninan wanted to bring out something innovative and thus born EdDiary - the app that links teachers with their students’ parents.
The product has been designed after a complete analysis into the requirements of the education sector and the communication requirement between the parents and the school.
The application has been designed to have a user-friendly interface which can be easily learnt by different users, says Ninan. According to Ninan, the App has two faces. One is the teacher app and other is the parent app.  Teachers can inscribe daily assignments like homework, test, task and announcements for respective classes through a web or mobile-based interface. The other one is the parents app where parents can log into a specific account and access all scheduling and assignment related information for their children. In a competitive education system, EdDiary is the smart alternative which can replace the conventional system where the teacher has to write in the diary of each student. “In the present busy life, many of the parents will not have enough time to go through their kids’ diary on a daily basis, but an alert on their smartphone will help the parents update the events of a kid. Parents will receive SMS alerts until they start using the mobile application. Moreover, if they don’t use the app for a very long time, SMS alert will be sent to their mobile phones,” he says.  Bus tracking facility, one of the main features of the app, whereby parents could get the location of the school bus and estimated time of arrival, will be incorporated soon in the upcoming version in metros like Bangalore, Mumbai etc.
Ninan says, “We have implemented this application in some of the schools in Kerala and it is running successfully there. We are also in talks with several schools in the country for implementing it.”
The app can be downloaded for free from Google Play and Apple App Store. Windows version will be available soon. For details, contact Ninan - 9645431270; email-info@eddiary.com
